Lawrenceburg United Methodist
Lawrenceburg, KY Lawrenceburg United Methodist contacted Pro Sound and Lights to upgrade their sound system and install lighting, video projection, and a video recording suite. The first step in the process was upgrading their sound system to meet the demands of a more contemporary worship style. We used four Mackie PA121 speakers. The unique shape of the room and ceiling brought some challenges to placement of the speakers, however, in the end we decided on two mini clusters in a stereo configuration.
The lighting system needed to double as both theatrical lighting and lighting for video production. We had a tight budget to adhere to so we decided to use eight ETC Source IV Jr.s with 26° lenses to accommodate the approximately fifty foot throw. To control the system we used the NSI digital dimming products. Four of the lights provide a general stage wash, two lights provide highlighting for performers, and the last two lights are reserved for gobos during productions.
The video projection system consists of a Sanyo 5000 Lumen projector with a long throw lens, a multimedia computer running MediaShout, an Ocean Matrix video switcher, and an electric screen. We needed a high lumen projector for the long distance that we were projecting and the amount of ambient light that comes through the East and West facing windows in the room. The electric screen was chosen for the ability to retract it while it was not being used for minimal obstruction. The projector and multimedia computer are located right next to each other in the sound booth for ease of use and maximum accessibility.

The last step in the project was a video recording system that would be used primarily for local access cable and secondarily for archival purposes. The recording suite consisted of three Sony EVI-D70 remote control cameras, an audio system split, two congregational mics, a Videonics MX4DV video mixer, and a Panasonic DVD/VCR hard-disk recorder. The Sony cameras are controlled using a Telemetrics remote control surface, and are mixed live. The church also invested in an additional soundboard so they could mix the audio for video separately. By using a high quality scan converter, the information being sent to the projector can be sent directly to the video mixer, eliminating the need for focusing a camera on the screen.
